If you are taking the Digital SAT in 2025, one question in your mind is: how much is one question worth?
Short Answer: On average, each SAT question is worth about 10–15 points, but it depends on difficulty. Hard questions are worth more than easy questions due to adaptive scoring.
SAT Question Weight Explained (Digital SAT 2025)
The Digital SAT has 98 total questions:
- Reading & Writing (RW): 54 questions
- Math: 44 questions
Total score is 1600. So 1600 / 98 = 16.3 points per question average. But College Board does NOT use flat marking. They use equating and adaptive testing.
Reading & Writing – How Much Per Question?
RW has 54 questions for 800 points.
- 1 question wrong in easy Module 1: you lose ∼10 points.
- 1 question wrong in hard Module 2: you lose ∼20–25 points.
- If you get 50/54 correct, your RW score is approx 740–760.
- If you get 40/54 correct, your RW score is approx 620–640.
So RW me 1 question = ∼12–15 points.
Math – How Much Per Question?
Math has 44 questions for 800 points.
- 1 question in Math is more valuable than RW.
- 1 question wrong can cost you 15–25 points.
- 44/44 = 800 (Perfect).
- 40/44 = 760 (You lost 40 points for 4 questions = 10 pts each).
- 35/44 = 700 (You lost 100 points for 9 questions).
So Math me 1 question = ∼18–20 points.

Does Harder Module Give More Points?
Yes. This is the biggest change in Digital SAT.
If you perform well in Module 1, you get Hard Module 2. In Hard Module 2, you can still get 800 even with 2–3 wrong.
If you get Easy Module 2, your max score is capped at ∼600 even if you get all correct in Module 2.
So getting hard questions right is worth much more.
